Gnocchi dough is made from different types of flour, egg and potatoes are often added to it, too. The resulting gnocchi usually have the form of small ovals and, after working into the desired shape, are boiled in water until they float. They are very easy to prepare, even at home.

Gnocchi are most often prepared with different types of cream and tomato sauces or with spinach. A very famous variant of this meal with tomato sauce is called Gnocchi ala sorrentina.
