A recipe for excellent pastry braids for dinner or breakfast for the family. Just fill them and you can have irresistible sandwiches, or cut them just like that to eat with ham or salad.

Ingredients
5 cups
plain flour
1 ⅓ cups
water
1 oz
lard
2 ½ tsp
salt
1 ¼ tsp
granulated sugar
1 tsp
instant dry yeast
to taste
poppy seeds or sesame

  1. Make leaven from water, sugar and instant dry yeast.
  2. Mix leaven with flour, lard and salt and make a dough. Let it rise for about an hour.
  3. Divide it into 4 parts. Then divide each part into three other parts, form cylinders, which you then braid. This is how you form 4 pastry braids.
  4. Transfer them onto a greased and floured baking sheet, drizzle with salted water, sprinkle with poppy seeds and bake until golden for about 18 minutes at 450 °F / 230 °C.
