Forget puff pastry. I was pleasantly surprised at how few ingredients are needed to make a great apple strudel dough. I was amazed at the result. Soft and tasty at the same time.

Forget puff pastry. I was pleasantly surprised at how few ingredients are needed to make a great apple strudel dough. I was amazed at the result. Soft and tasty at the same time.

Dough:

2 cups
flour
a pinch
salt
a little
vinegar
¼ cup
oil
½ cup
water

Filling:

to taste
grated apple
to taste
granulated sugar
to taste

  1. Sift the flour and a pinch of salt through a sieve. Add oil and gradually pour water in a thin stream. I make the dough using a mixer with a kneading hook. It's ready in no time at all. Finally, add a little vinegar. The dough is then perfectly flexible and does not tear at all.
  2. Place the finished dough on the worktop, cover it with a warm bowl (I heat water in a kettle and put it in a bowl. Then I pour the water out and cover the dough with this bowl.) and let it rest for about half an hour.
  3. Then I spread the dough with my hands. I pull it so that it is thin. I layer the filling to taste and just roll it up.
  4. Carefully transfer the cake onto a baking sheet, wash with a little melted butter and poke with a toothpick.
  5. Bake at 375 °F / 190 °C for about 15 minutes, then reduce the temperature to 340 °F / 170 °C and bake for another 30 minutes. Then take it out, wash it again with melted butter and before serving, sprinkle the top with sugar.
