Mascarpone Christmas Finnish pulla - step by step

Prepare a luxurious mascarpone Christmas Finnish pulla. It's perfect for breakfast. I made a double batch so my mom could have it too. She loves Christmas Finnish pulla. It's like from a fairy tale, great with butter and honey along with my morning coffee and I have to say that it really worked out for me. Sometimes when I baked a Christmas Finnish pulla according to another recipe, it used to crack during baking, which cannot be said about this one.

  1. Heat a little bit of milk, add sugar and dissolve it by stirring. Add the yeast and let it stand for a while to allow the leaven to rise.
  2. In a bowl, mix sifted flour with egg, mascarpone, salt and cut butter (room temperature). Add the yeast and the remaining milk and make a smooth dough, leave to rise in a warm place. When it has doubled in size, form a ball again and cover with a dish towel. Let it rise for an hour in a warm place.
  3. Divide the risen dough into 4 equal pieces and shape each piece into a roll. Connect the top of each roll and you can braid as you see in the picture. Fourth over third, then under second and over first. Repeat this process until you reach the end. Cover with a dish towel and leave to rise for 30 minutes.
  4. After 30 minutes, wash the top with beaten egg yolk and sprinkle with sesame or poppy seeds. Bake in a preheated oven at 375 °F / 190 °C for about 40 minutes.
