So I have tried the first Christmas recipe while there is still a little more time. They are butter walnut cubes. Only with the second layer, as an amateur, I would probably be lost a bit about how to do it. So I beat the butter with the sugar, then added the ground nuts, rum and zest, and finally mixed in the whipped egg whites. I cut cubes about 1.5x1.5 inches in size. Truly, they taste excellent. At home, family declared that these will be the "top" of this Christmas. They say that half-moons have a lot of competition (they were the best until now) :-D

  1. Prepare the classic butter dough - sift semi-coarse and plain flour through a sieve, add cubed butter and sugar. Wrap the ball of dough in food foil and put it in the fridge for 2 hours. While the dough is resting, prepare the walnut dough.
  2. Beat the butter with the sugar, then add the ground nuts, flour, rum and zest, and finally mix in the whipped egg whites.
  3. Roll out the butter dough to the size of the baking sheet, layer the walnut dough, smooth it evenly and bake. Bake in a preheated oven at 300 °F / 150 °C for about 40 minutes.
  4. After baking, immediately wash with the yolk glaze. As the cake is hot, the yolk frosting will dry out. Beat the egg yolks with powdered sugar and rum until foamy.
  5. Decorate according to your imagination - with chocolate and nuts.
