Sandwiches, canapes, chips, sticks, nuts, all of these belong on the table at the New Year's Eve celebration. Of course, I do not count alcohol, cookies left over from Christmas. If you want to prepare something uncommon that everyone will surely like, try twister sticks with bacon or ham. I bake them every year and trust me, they disappear from the table faster than sandwiches or canapes. You can use puff pastry or yeast dough, both are fantastic.

  1. I prepared a classic yeast dough, which I also use when baking excellent bacon and cheese buns. You can find the recipe here: Bacon cheese puffs.
  2. Roll out the yeast dough on the worktop into a sheet approx. 1/4 inch thick. (If you don't want to prepare classic yeast dough, you can also buy puff pastry. I've used both types of doughs and both variants are excellent.)
  3. Cut the dough into strips, sprinkle with grated cheese, place a slice of bacon and twist the prepared slice into a spiral.
  4. Place the spirals on a baking sheet lined with baking paper, wash with egg yolk, sprinkle with seeds and bake in a preheated oven at 390 °F / 200 °C until golden.
  5. It's a great party treat, definitely try it. I make them every year and every year there is not a single piece left.
